Make Money Selling Online with Affiliate Marketing

You want to make money selling online, but what is the best alternative? Affiliate marketing is an excellent way to make money online. It has spiked in popularity and today there is more interest than ever. Why, you ask? The reasons are numerous, but the number one answer is most likely the benefits have become apparent or obvious.

Merchants and affiliates can clearly define a symbiotic relationship. Affiliate marketing provides merchants a low cost advertising opportunity and affiliates are provided the opportunity of making money online selling without having to create their own products, etc. With the rise in popularity people see affiliate marketing differently, they now consider it a main source of profits and revenue.

So the question remains, what is the best type of affiliate marketing program for you to make money selling online? Are all programs equal? Do they have the same benefits, or do some work better than others?

There are many different types of affiliate marketing programs. The most basic is pay-per-click (PPC) and pay-per-performance (PPP). PPC is probably the most popular type for affiliates with small sites and likely the easiest way for them to earn money. Essentially with this type of marketing, the merchant will pay the affiliate every time the affiliate refers someone to the merchants site via a click through. This is typically from a banner or text ad on the affiliates site, which incidentally the referrer (affiliate) is paid regardless whether the visitor buys anything or not from the merchant. The fee earned by the affiliate is typically a small amount.

PPP is a very popular form of affiliate marketing for the merchant and is often the most lucrative program for the affiliates. The merchant is only required to pay the affiliate if the visitor performs an action. This action in most cases is make a purchase or become a lead. They become a lead by filling out some sort of information. It is called a pay-per-sale program (PPS) when it is based on a visitor purchase. It is called a pay-per-lead (PPL) program if the visitor is required to fill out a form.

Affiliate marketing programs will also be categorized as single tier, two-tier or multi-tier programs. This really refers to the affiliate networks depth or the different levels upon which the network will make payments to the affiliates. In other words a single tier program only pays the affiliate based on the direct sale or lead the he has provided the merchant. With a two tier program the merchant pays the affiliate for a the direct sale or lead. Additionally the affiliate marketer will recruit other marketers and will receive payments based on their direct sales or leads. A multi tier program works the same way, only the affiliate marketer will get additional commissions for a wider number of affiliates in different tiers with in the network.

Additionally, a program can be categorized as a residual income program. This refers to a program that will pay an affiliate continued payment for some period of time. In other words, let say the visitor buys membership into the merchants program. The merchant agrees to pay the affiliate for a period of time. In some cases this is the lifetime of the client or referral, and in others it is a pre-establish period of time. So in the case of a membership if it is a lifetime commission, every time that client pays his dues, the affiliate marketer gets a commission. If it is a 30 day period of time then the affiliate is paid on all the purchases made by the client in those days.

You can make money selling online, but it is important to have a plan, be able to take action and have the ability to work hard. You should familiarize yourself with lingo, know what your options are and select a path. I think it is essential to align yourself with an educational program like the Wealthy Affiliate.
